What are the differences between Carbon Tattoo Needles and Bugpins?

I saw some Bugpins and carbons for sale on a site, one is a #12, the carbons and the Bugpins are #10. I know the lower the number the thicker the needle, but aside from the obvious what are the main differences between the two? Can you give me details please?

Actually in the world of Tattooing, this is not the case. A number 12 tattoo needle is the traditional sized tattoo needle and the only one true to gauge…after that, the smaller the number, the smaller the size wire for the needle; so bug pins are all numbers 10, 8, and 6 getting smaller as the number descends.
